Cartilage degeneration in a rabbit experiment
A different tissue, a different endpoint. The word ‘repair’ asks a great deal of a cartilage-degeneration score.
The rabbit knee model
The 2015 AOD9604 study used a collagenase-induced knee osteoarthritis model in 32 New Zealand white rabbits. The researchers examined intra-articular administration, meaning administration into the joint, with AOD9604 alone or alongside hyaluronic acid.
Compared with saline control, the treatments reduced gross morphological and histopathological cartilage-degeneration scores. The first description concerns the tissue’s visible form; the second concerns examination of its microscopic features. Both keep the finding attached to cartilage in that rabbit model.
A rabbit knee is a quieter destination for this story than a sweeping claim about fat metabolism. My fascination here comes from the switch in subject: tissue, route and measured outcome all shift despite the recurring compound name. That gives the cartilage finding a reason to stand on its own.

Cartilage scores
The amount of action packed into ‘repair’ makes me wary. It can suggest a restored joint, comfortable movement and a finished process. The result discussed in this rabbit study is narrower: lower cartilage-degeneration scores than saline control.
That wording still describes an interesting result. My preference for it has nothing to do with dismissing the experiment. It gives the observed change a definite object and leaves the larger claims available for experiments capable of testing them.
The study also considered AOD9604 with and without hyaluronic acid. A claim that the combination outperforms each component would need a result specifically supporting that comparison. I will stay with the finding stated here rather than supply a ranking between the treatments.
A claim about human joint pain would need human evidence for that outcome. These rabbit cartilage scores can motivate another question without answering it in advance. That is enough to make the experiment worth considering alongside the fat-synthesis work.
